It is a well-known cliché – you never forget your first love and actually, this corny cliché is so very true! Your first love has such an impact on the rest of your life and the relationships that you embark on from that point, it is simple to understand why they make such a difference and why they will always have that special part of your heart for all of eternity!

Your first love is very often your best love. There is no emotional baggage, no distrust, no envy, no jealousy, everything is so new and fresh and perhaps it is because of this no baggage deal that makes it so wonderful. When you have a few relationships under your belt, you start to understand about infidelity and bad emotional attachments but with your first love, there is none of this history to reflect back on and this means that you set your heart well and truly with the partner you are with. You haven’t been cheated on before so you don’t have the worry of whether or not your first love is going to do it to you. You may have experienced a violent relationship at some point in your past, but you haven’t had this before your first love so therefore this cannot hang its dark cloud over your relationship. Everything is new and fresh and that is why it is so exciting.

A person will tend to lose their virginity with their first love and perhaps this is why they are remembered so much. It is noted that you will always have some sort of connection with the person that “pop’s your cherry” and if you loved them enough to give them your most treasured possession, you will love them for many years to come. You will always remember the first person that you slept with and for this reason you will always remember your first love.

Your first love will very often set the scene for the remainder of your relationships, and this is not you making a conscious decision, it just happens that way. For example, if you have a first love that was a little bit of a bad boy and wasn’t the best partner, you will very often find that you will keep going for this sort of man even though you may not realize it. Your first love actually has more of an impact on your life than what you would first realize and this is because it sets the boundaries for the rest of the relationships to come.

If you were badly abused either mentally or physically by your first love, you will find that it tars every relationship that you have from that point onwards and you will grow up being very wary of partners that may come into your life, not trusting them as much as you should do and not giving the relationship your all. The same works in the other way as well however, if your first love was the most tremendous experience you will find that the boundaries for future relationships are very high and nothing else will compare quite to the same standards.
